Visit from Mum
My Mum is in town visiting me for about a week and we have been having a great time. Lots and lots of sightseeing.
We started out the trip by visiting the parks.
On our first full day, we visited Windsor to visit the Queen...but she was not in.

We also explored Windsor to take in the sites. Check out the crooked house.
The weather was amazing and a nice way to kick off her visit.

Birthday Fun in Bath
I am back in business! After replacing my computer and finally getting everything in order, I can finally blog again.
This past weekend, I spent my birthday visiting Bath with a couple of friends. Bath is about a 2 hour train ride outside London and is a world heritage site. It is known for its hot springs and Georgian architecture. Here we are coming out of the Bath train station.
We spent the first few hours wondering around the city and checking out the beautiful buildings. Here is a picture of a row of residential houses, laid out in a crescent built in the 1700's.
The houses were enormous and if you looked down in front of each home (past the railing), many of them had wonderful basement gardens.
As we walked around the city, we saw a lot of blocked up windows. In the 17th and 18th centuries, there was a glass tax and many people bricked up their windows so they would be taxed less (I learned this on a walking tour a few weeks ago!).
During the day, we also visited the Roman baths. The baths were built over 2,000 years ago!
My favorite photo of the day..the baths with the Bath Abbey in the background.
The Roman baths have not been completely excavated. But you can walk through different parts of the large compound and see where rooms use to be.
We took an audio guided tour. Here is Helen and Jessica listening.
Some of the pools were very pretty. Strange to think thousands of years ago Romans were walking around the place naked! :)
After the baths, we headed to the river to walk around.
We ended our day in a park drinking champaign and eating cupcakes for my birthday. It was a great day!
