We spent our days wandering around London and having a good time since the weather was so nice. We headed to Liberty of London for some retail therapy. I bought a very expensive shower cap that I love and Mom got a cute bag.
We walked around the building which is really something to look at.
Even their displays were fun. Here is a photo of their ribbon displayed on star shaped cardboard.
Besides shopping, we walked around the city. We smelled some pretty flowers along the way.
The Paralympics was still on so all the mascots were out across the city. Here is a painted Wenlock on display. I really liked the mascots this year, even if the rest of the world did not understand them.
We also visited Green Park on our way to the Tube one day. Again, the weather was great!!
Throughout the week, Mom was determined to get a photo of her favorite ad. We found a great poster of it in the Tube. It was a cute poster of a horse blocking the way on an escalator. Reminding people to find different modes of travel during the Olympics.
I was surprised to see this Olympic banner on the street. They had flags of different nations in the Olympic symbol. Just happened to see this one for the US.
We headed to the V&A museum for an afternoon. On our way there, this guy was drawing pictures on the sidewalk. Here is a nice picture of Big Ben.
Outside the V&A museum, Mom and I were having flashbacks with the cone display out front. There was a time in my youth when Mom brought home a number of orange construction cones for us to use on the farm. Gee Mom...where did you get the cones? : )
The V&A has some great displays. We wandered throughout the halls.
Here is Mom in front of one of the displays. Look'n good.
We visited the Cast Courts which have on display casts of artifacts from all over the world. These pillars were really amazing given their size.
We also visited the Ardabil Carpet which was made in the late 1530's. To preserve the colors, it is only lit for 10 minutes twice an hour. Funny enough, Mom and I sat there waiting for it to light up...and it never did. We gave up after a while.
After walking around, we sat outside the museum for a while watched the kids play in the water and taking in the nice weather.
We were in the nosebleed section, but it was still a great view.
It was the end of the BBC Proms season, but we were able to catch the St. Louis Symphony on their European tour. The Music Director David Robertson was very entertaining to watch. A lot of flying hair!
Mom and I also spent a morning visiting the Queen. We did a tour of Buckingham Palace and were able to see an amazing diamond display celebrating her Jubilee year. We were able to see a number of the Queen's crowns as well as the largest diamond in the world (Cullinan) which was split into a number of smaller diamonds (which were still huge)! Too bad we were not able to take any photos.
The audio tour took about an hour and a half and weaved its way through a number of rooms in the Palace. When we finished, the Queen had a huge tent set up in her backyard where we could order tea. So civilized! Of course, it was kinda fancy since it was the Garden Cafe.
We had to split some fun desserts.
And look at Mom's coffee. Such class.
Here is a photo of the back of her house. Not bad.
Here we are after our morning tour.
On our way out, there was a gift shop just in case we needed to buy something. Unfortunately, we did not find anything fun we needed to take home.
As we exited the Palace, we walked through the Queen's back garden. Again, I've seen worse.
We also spent one of our last nights at the theater. I took Mom to see War Horse. We had amazing front row seats, but here is the only photo Mom got of the show before she was shut down by an usher! You will just have to go see it to understand what all the talk is about.
Stay turned for one more posting of Mom's visit....our day to see Harry Potter.
